The film and tv industry is now auditioning primarily virtually - via self-tapes and zoom callbacks. This is GREAT news for PNW actors; we can now be seen for bigger projects that have traditionally been reserved for actors who live in LA or NYC. But, taping your audition can feel daunting too. So how do we take the form of self-taping and use it to our advantage? This course, taught by Angie Tennant, is designed to demystify the art of putting yourself on tape. You’ll walk away with tangible storytelling tools that you can apply immediately to your auditions to highlight your unique character choices and help you stand out from the crowd.
Students will be assigned sides on a weekly basis and should be prepared for some work outside of class. We will work with material from tv, film, and commercials and cover comedy, drama, and everything in between. Upon completion, students will have access to the footage from class to review and keep for their portfolio.
Angie Tennant (they/them) is an actor, teaching artist and private coach who has recently relocated to Portland after a decade of teaching and performing in New York City. They hold an MFA in Acting from The New School for Drama, where they studied under greats like Kathleen Chalfant, Dianne Weist, Cotter Smith, and Peter Jay Fernandez. They went on to teach at Circle in the Square, The New School for Drama, and Columbia University’s MFA in Acting Program. As an actor, Angie is a proud member of Actor’s Equity and has performed Off-Broadway and on regional stages in New York & New Jersey. They have recently wrapped shooting on the feature film Motives alongside Michael Raymond James, Vanessa Vasquez, & Efren Ramirez. Angie will soon be starring in the feature film Gehenna, directed by Edd Blott. Portland theatre credits include The Bed Trick at Artists Repertory Theatre, Uncle Vanya, You Stupid Darkness! and Walden At 21ten.
