Zan is a reactionary high school student facing court-ordered community service after a violent altercation. Dorothy is a passionate librarian going through a lengthy hospitalization far away from the books she loves. When Zan is forced to fulfill his community service by reading to Dorothy at her bedside, he's as frustrated with the chore as she is with the surly teenage boy who has no respect for literature. But each of them might just have what the other needs . . . if they can only find the words.

Meet the Cast

Dorothy

Katie Prentiss is an actress and filmmaker from Portland, Oregon. Playing Dorothy in 21ten's BareBones production of Dorothy's Dictionary is her debut role with the theater. Katie has made several award-winning short films. Her first feature film, Wake Up Maggie, a love letter to caregivers born of her experience caring for her mom during her final years, was completed in the fall of 2026. She just launched her first podcast season, Katie Prentiss | Sunshine Soul, that shares more of her journey (www.katieprentiss.com). She'd like to thank Ted Rooney for the opportunity to perform this special play, E.M. Lewis for writing a it, and her dear husband, Brian, who's always generously running lines or prepping auditions with her.

Zan

Am Blank (any/all) is an up-and-coming theatre artist working in the Portland area. A recent graduate from the University of Portland, AM does it all-- acting, directing, tech, and more! Most recently, they directed a production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and worked with 21ten backstage on You Stupid Darkness!. To follow along with their projects, go to @the_amvh on instagram!
